Kool-aid ice bowling

We love to play with ice and so we made Kool-Aid ice balls. Fun for summer play and a great way to stay cool.

All you need is balloons, kool-aid packets, water and a freezer. Then can use pins or plastic cups for the bowling pins. What we used was plastic pins from our Little Tikes bowling set.

Hours of fun and if you place paper down to make an alley then you can have some cool painting as well.

This activity is great for fine motor skills, eye hand coordination and fun way to get moving. Below are a couple other fun games we have done be sure to check them out.

Erupting Kool-Aid ice science and art

The kids love to explore and create. I froze 2 blocks of ice for them to play and experiment with since we have had some night days outside.

This is a simple and fun experiment project for kids of multiple ages. I filled 2 square containers up with water and placed int he freeze overnight.

Then just collected different materials for Jake and Cate to explore with. You can use whatever you want. Listed below are what we used.

Materials:
Ice block
Salt
Baking soda
Kool-aid packets
Spray bottles with vinegar
Baby oil
(all the materials can be bought at the Dollar Tree and are very inexpensive)

First the kids poured kool-aid and baking soda on the ice to see if it would bubble and fizz. It did. Then they mixed colors and explored. Poured salt in the block and Jake thought that was neat cause it held the color more on the ice.

After they explored a little I gave them paint brushes and they painted their ice and explored some more. I love how simple this project is and the kids sat still for over a hour doing this.

Great way to have fun on a hot day, along with enjoying science and art play.

We love to do all kinds of fun hands on play with Kool-Aid.

Below are some of our favorite hands on science play, be sure to check them out.

Water Wall fun

We got a set from Lakeshore Learning that was colored piping and you pour water in it and the water runs thru. J and C loves playing with them so I thought a water wall would be fun to make.

So the kids and I took a trip to Home Depot and got peg board and cable ties. The peg board will have to be cut it is one big sheet for $18., so I had the guy cut the board into 3 pieces no set size.

Then when we got home we gathered things around the house to make our water wall. We used different size funnels, some of the plastic piping and some recycled containers.

Then we used the cable ties and tied them to the board. Remember when you are doing the lining up to make sure the water will drip.

Materials:
Peg Board $18. for large sheet and can make 2-3 water wall out of it.
Cable ties $1. (pack pf 25 at Dollar Tree)
Funnels $1. each
Recycled bottles free

We also added some more color to our wall and added some hand prints and sponge painted.

Explore with ice

It was a HOT day and so I thought it would be fun to play with ice and water. We did it during Winter, the kids loved it but didn't play with the water since it was cold. This time we changed it up a little we used baby oil, salt and I also filled the water balloons with water beads.

J had alot of fun. This is a great science activity and the kids love it.

Materials:
Water balloons frozen to make ice balls
Food coloring or you can use Kool-Aid packets(for a fun smell)
Baby oil
Water
Salt

All you need to do is let the kids explore to see what happens with the different ingredients when poured on the ice.

We also had fun exploring with sprinkling Kool-Aid on the ice as well. Gave it a fun smell when exploring.

Count, Stack, and Squirt Game

It was a hot day and we were out playing with water on the deck. I got some plastic cups left over from a party and we stacked them and counted how many times it too to shoot the cups down.

This is a simple game, but while having fun you can count when stacking the cups and shooting them down. Along with working on fine motor skills when squirting the spray bottle.

Materials:
Spray bottle
Water
Cups or something light to spray down.

All items can be bought for $1.00 at the Dollar Tree

Sensory water bag fun for HOT day

Saw this fun DIY sensory water bag from www.gokidyourself.com formerly "The mommies made me do it"

Then we had a play date with them and got to do it in person. The kids had a blast.

So we thought since Meme(grandma) has a big yard we would do this when we visited Fl for the 4th of July.

Again the kids had a blast. Got the materials that were needed and put it together to have some fun in the sun.

Materials needed:
Heavy duty plastic.....painter section at Home Depot
Duck tape we used 1 roll but I would get 2 for extra
Water
Food coloring for extra color, but you need alot we used 1 bottle and work for alittle.

How to make:
Open plastic have a seam on one side and then tape 3 sides, before you tape we folded to seal better. We also taped each side 2 times to hold better.

Tried to make a Flag but ran out of tape to make the stripes.

Taping the sides up

Filling it up with the water

You can see the blue food coloring here.

J couldn't stay off of it why we were trying to fill it up

Boat race down the creek

We went to Scott Run Creek in Mclean, Va and had a blast. This was the first time we took the kiddos to the creek, so I wasn't too sure if J would like it or not. C is pretty passive so wasn't too worried about her.

Well it was a hit, J had so much excitement that he was like a little boy on speed. We spent 2 hours there and he still didn't want to leave when it was time.

J thought this was the coolest walking in the water with his shoes

Got all his creek toys ready for some fun

J has a thing for tires and wanted to get this tire out of the creek....too funny.

Race the boats

Look the boats are going down stream.....love it

Trying to get the red boat

Look I got it!!!

C loved the water
