How to make GOOP. Then just add kool-aid ice.

Sorry my camera battery needed to be charged will post pictures when we play again. Cause this was a fun activity the kids loved it.

Magic Jello ice

Kids love science and we are always exploring to fine new things to do with things around the house. Back in March we made Fizzing Shamrocks and since then we have been messing around to make a better mold.

Well we came up with it and had a lot of fun playing with our Magic Jello Ice Stars. They are simple to make and super fun.

All you need to do is mix about 3 tsp of jello with 1/2 cup of hot water, once the jello is dissolved then mix with about 1-2 cups of baking soda. Don't make it too thick you want it a little runny to pour into the ice trays. (We got our start ice trays from Dollar Tree)

Then let it freeze and you have your magic jello ice.

Place on a tray and make them erupt and bubble with vinegar. Once the vinegar dissolve them you will have a goop like sensory play.

NOTE: You can make them with Kool-Aid as well.

This is a fun experiment for all ages.

We love ice play be sure to check out some other fun ice things we have done.

Jell-O bubble fun

Bubbles are fun!!! My kids love playing with bubbles. We have made firework bubbles, colored bubbles in the bath, and even made scented bubbles.

This is super easy to make, all  you need is a bowl, dawn dish soap, water and jell-o. Mix them together to make your jell-o bubbles. Then get a straw and blow bubbles.

Today we had fun with Jell-O bubbles. We blew in the the bubbles to see who could make the biggest bubble mountain. Jake and Cate had a blast and laughed so much.

I just love all the face expressions when making the bubble mountains.

5+ things to do with baking soda and conditioner

Sensory play is a fun way for your kids to explore and play.  We love to mix things together and experiment.

Below I put together some of the fun ways you can play and explore with 2 simple ingredients in your home. Then add 2 more ingredients to give it a different twist.

The fun started with mixing baking soda and hair conditioner together and we made some AWESOME snow play. This is a MUST TRY sensory play.

then with this awesome snow you can set up a fun sensory play for the kids.

Then you can have some glow play fun.

Then for all those Dinosaur lovers you can make some fun dino eggs.

and erupting mud dinosaur sensory bin.

One of our favorites Magic snowballs

Then a really fun imaginary play make your own ice cream shop.

You can also place it in molds and freeze it to make a fun fizzing science play.

Kool-Aid Ice cream dough new sensory play

When I was experimenting with our fake snow play, I made this fun and yummy smelling ice cream dough by adding kool-aid to the mixture. Our favorite was the watermelon, it made the room smell so YUMMY!!

I was so excited to come up with a new sensory play for the kids. It looks and smells just like real ice cream, plus it was cool to the touch.

The kids love to do imaginary play, over the summer we did an ice cream shop play with salt and water and added some kool-aid as well.

Materials:
Baking soda
Hair conditioner
Kool-Aid
Storage containers
(You can get all of these ingredients from Dollar Tree)

The mixture I used to make our dough was 3 cups of baking soda, 3 teaspoons of hair conditioner(you don't need much) and kool-aid packet. Place all together and mix.

We used silicone ice cream cones we bought at Marshall's but you can get them on amazon as well. We paid only $5.99 for ours. You can also use real ice cream cones from the Dollar Store.

This sensory dough holds up great and stores well. We made ours over a month ago and we still take it out to play with it. When done playing store in a sealed container or ziplock baggie.

If it doesn't feel like it is molding well for play just add a little hair conditioner and you are good to go.

Be sure to check out the other fun things you can do with sensory play and kool-aid as well.

Homemade "GLUTEN FREE" play dough

Play dough is so much fun, what kid doesn't like to play with it?  When I was making the Magic Model Clay the other day instead of wrapping it up to cool down I let a batch sit out to see if it would work as play dough. Well it did.

After it cooled down the kids played with it and had a blast. It was the softest play dough and the great thing was it was made without flour so it's "Gluten Free".

I know there are a lot of recipes out there that call for flour to make homemade play dough so I was excited when this worked and as you can see we made several YUMMY smelling batches.

You can made Model Magic the same way just after cooling under a damp towel, mold to the shape you want and let it air dry.

Materials:
3 cups of baking soda
2 cup of corn starch
2 cups of water
Kool-aid or Duncan Hines frosting packets. (Both work the pink is bubble gum and the blue is cotton candy)
Food coloring works as well, but then you don't have a fruity smell.

Mix all the ingredients in a cooking pot, place heat on medium and stir til you have a dough. Only takes couple minutes. Kids can help but need to be supervised.

1. All the ingredients mixed together in pot
2. Thicken up
3. Looks like mash potatoes
4. Cooling
5. Playdough or Model Clay ready to play or mold

Rainbow erupting "Ice Volcano"

"J" would sit and do volcano's all day long if you gave him enough baking soda and vinegar. With all the fun science we have been doing the other night when freezing things for other projects, I thought how cool would it be to have an ice volcano.

So I gathered a container, a cup to place in the middle for the hole and some heavy rocks to keep it from floating and it worked.

When "J" saw me take it out of the freezer he said, "mom, what is that?" I told him and he was so excited.

Materials:
Bowl
Cup(to place in the center for the hole)
Something heavy to hold the cup down(we used some small rocks from our sensory play)

Then to make it erupt we used kool-aid powder(rainbow colors), baking soda and water. (You can use vinegar if you want, but the reaction of kool-aid and baking soda mixed will erupt with just water...due to the acetic acid)

Place baking soda and kool-aid together in the middle of the ice. Then squeeze water or vinegar and it erupts. Can do several times just rinse the ice off.

This was alot of fun to see all the colors appear at once.
