Homemade glossy paint

I was cleaning out the pantry the other day and had some condensed milk that was expired so, I opened it up and put food coloring in it to make some glossy paint for the kids. I didn't want to waste it.

Wasn't too sure how it was going to work cause it was thick and a little sticky. Well have to say it was a success and the painting we did turned out so pretty and the texture it had when it dried was too cool.

If you never used condensed milk to paint with I will say it is a MUST try. Sticky but fun.

This also is great to use with toddlers, cause if it goes in their mouth its not going to harm them.

Homemade scented bath paints

We love bath time it is one of our favorite times together. We are always doing something fun and creative. While playing the other night I mixed some kool-aid in with the kids Johnson and Johnson's bath soap and it worked well for paint and colored bubble bath.

We use to paint with our shaving cream bath paints, but Cate has sensitive skin and so we had to stop using it. The bath soap and kool-aid worked great  cause it is for sensitive skin and it's also great cause it is tear free for their eyes.

Note: You can use the Target brand as well it works just like the Johnson and Johnson's baby bath.

We used our bath paints to paint Easter eggs. We also did a Peter Cotton Tail Bunny that we decorated like our Frosty the snowman bath we did at Christmas.

To do this bath all you need is craft foam and cut the shapes you need. Craft foam acts like stickers in the tub when it is wet. They stick to the wall and the bath.

The nice thing about these paints is that you can paint on craft foam over and over again and  it washes right off. So you can use the foam eggs for multiple fun baths. Jake even painted on the plastic eggs as well.

Then we sang the song in the bath while putting Peter Rabbit together.

Fizzing scented sidewalk paint for kids

We love to paint and mix science in with the fun things we do.  We had a nice day to play a little outside so I whipped up some fun scented sidewalk paint.

I mixed baking soda, dish soap, kool-aid and very little water together to make our paint. You can make it with corn starch instead of dish soap, but I found it to harden up if it sat for a period of time.

I didn't measure the amounts just placed baking soda, dish soap and water in a bowl. Then when I placed the mixture in the muffin pan I added the kool-aid.

Then place vinegar in a spray bottle and after the kids paint the sidewalk a little give them the spray bottle to make the paint fizz.

This is a super fun and inexpensive outside activity to do with the kids on a nice day.

Make your own Alphabet bath soap or crayons

We love bath time and adding fun learning in as well so I thought it would be fun to make our own alphabet bath soaps.

I was at Micheal's the other day going up and down the aisle when I saw a make your own soap section. Have to say never thought about doing that since I am funny with smells for the bath and the kids with sensitive skin. But they had clear glycerin soap blocks and with my 50% coupon was only $4.99, so I thought it would be worth a try for the kid.

Then I saw an alphabet soap mold for $2.00. So I came home and tried it and well it worked great and the kids thought it was the coolest thing for the tub.

Very simple to make.

Directions:
Follow what is on the soap block and I added food coloring to different batches. Place in the molds and you have soap after about 15 minutes. This was super easy to do and didn't make a mess at all.

Make your own Valentine's stamps

Fun and simple way to have the kids make their own Valentine's Day cards. Stamp X's and O's all over the paper and then cut into a heart.

I took a potato and cut it in half then used a knife and cut out an O and X for the hugs and kisses. Then got pink and red paint and let "C" stamp on the paper.

Simple and inexpensive. Also, after they are done stamping then you toss it and don't have a big mess to clean up.

"C" had a blast stamping, plus this is a great fine motor skill for her.

Make your own soft scented puff paint

We love doing crafts so today I mixed up this fun scented puff paint. It is super easy and so neat to feel once the art work is done drying.

Materials:
Shaving cream
White glue
Packet of kool-aid

I used about 2 cups shaving cream to 1 cup of white glue mixed together, then added alittle kool-aid to scent  and color the paint for our hearts.  Yes it is that simple.

Then after "J" and "C" were done making their pretty hearts, they had some sensory play. I gave them chopsticks and they played and drew in the mixture.

"C" was smelling it and got some on her nose and they thought that was the funniest thing.

Homemade scented bubble bath paints

Make your own scented bubble bath for kids. Tear free and safe for sensitive skin. We have used the shaving cream bath paints in the past but every time my daughter uses them she brakes out in a rash. So we had to stop using them in the bath.

I wanted to come up with something that they could paint with as well as makes bubbles in the bath. So you get a dual purpose out of it. Then the other night while washing them an idea clicked.

Mix a kool-aid packet and  Johnson's baby bath for sensitive skin together and you get a fun bath paint along with scented/colored bubble bath.

NOTE: We have used the Target brand as well and works good.

We used the paints to paint our Easter eggs for the bath, the great things about these paints are that you can wash it right off the foam and paint again.

For this bath we used craft foam I cut out the bunny shapes and eggs and the kids made bunny faces like we did at Christmas for our Frosty Bath and painted their eggs.

Scented snowflake tree ornament made with popsicle sticks

We are having so much fun making simple Christmas tree ornaments this year and adding some fun scents to them as well.

Snowflakes are not a new craft with popsicle sticks, so we wanted ours alittle different so we added alittle extra twist to them.

1. I place several sticks in a baggie and added some peppermint extract and alittle water and let them sit over night. Then took them out and placed on a paper towel to dry. After they were dry we painted them with scented peppermint paint. Boy did they smell YUMMY!!

2. We added some snowflake buttons to them, you can get a bag of 52 buttons from Michael's for $4.99 or use a 50% off coupon like we did and get them for $2.49.

Materials:
Popsicle sticks (we used large ones)
Paint
Glue
Buttons( you can add whatever you would like to your snowflakes)
Ribbon
