Make your own erupting glow snow

Super fun glow erupting sensory science for kids

The kids had so much fun playing with the glowing rock science we did the other day, that "J" asked could they do it again. So instead of the rocks I made snowballs since we just has our 1st snowfall for the year.

They had a blast with this as well. When making the glowing snow and snowballs I used the highlighters this time, instead of the neon paint.

I let the highlighters sit in water over night and then mixed alittle with the snow we made.

Materials:
Baking soda
Hair conditioner
Vinegar
Highlighters(we used yellow, pink and orange)
Blacklight ($10.00 at Wal-Mart or Home Depot) so worth the money. Lots you can do with it.

If you like erupting science like we do be sure to check out some of the other fun science play times.

Glowing sand "Dino Dig" sensory fun.

"J" has been all into the fun dinosaur sensory play and we were in the Dollar Tree the other day and I found these fun "glow in the dark" dinosaur puzzle fossil pieces so I had to pick them up.

We added them to our glowing sand and turned our fun black light on and "J" and "C" had a blast. After they explored finding different size fossil bones I added a fun twist.

I mixed baking soda into the glowing sand to make it bubble and erupt. I also made some glowing rocks as well.  Post for the glowing rock science will be up tomorrow.

The kids LOVED this sensory play. They were really into it. It was also a great fine motor and eye/hand coordination for the kids. We used tweezers to pick up the fossils and then squirt bottles for the vinegar spray. If you have older kids they would love this as well and you can add learning to it with dinosaur info and talk about dinosaur facts.

I loved how "J" got his flashlight looking for the fossils. I asked him why he needed his flashlight and he said, "Mom we are in a cave digging." Love his imagination.

Be sure to check back this week on how to make your own glowing rock science.

Also, if you don't have a black light we got ours at Home Depot for $15.00. They are alot of fun to play with.

If you like dinosaur sensory play be sure to check out some of our other ones we have done.

Glow in the dark Christmas lantern

We made a simple Glow in the Dark lantern in February and "J" loved it so I thought it would be fun to make a Christmas lantern.

So I gathered the materials and made it. "J" really liked it.

Materials: In the picture below

For the glow stick I cute it with scissors and just let "J" pour. Not safe for kids to touch or handle with out a parent.

Stickers had "J" place on the mason jar to decorate it, also great fine motor skill for kids. Then after he decorated it then he added glitter inside the jar and poured the glow stick jucie in the jar.

Make sure you crack the glow stick to glow before you cut and pour in the jar.

Alittle hard to see it glow cause the camera.

You can make these for all occasions.

Glowing salt sand

We saw this glow in the dark Crayola set at the store the other day and "J" wanted to get it, it was on clearance for $4.00 so I said ok we can try it.

So we took out the set and it didn't work and he was so upset. So Mom had to think of something quick to get the 4 yr old from crying, he was so upset.

So I grabbed the highlighters from the craft area and mixed a couple drops with salt. WOW!! Mom got it to work and we had glowing sand under the black light.

Thanks to Train up a Child for the tip that highlighters is how you make glowing stuff under the black light.

Had to laugh "J" said, "mom you are the bomb, you did magic." Gotta love kids and the things they come up with.

Materials:
Salt
Highlighters(Yellow, Orange, and Pink work the best)

Very inexpensive $.40 for 26oz of salt and $1.00 for pack of 3 markers at Dollar store. I got my highlighters at Office Depot this week, on sale for $.50 for 3 markers.

Easy to make: Pour salt in a container then take inside of highlight out of the marker. I got it alittle wet then squeezed to get couple drops on the salt and mixed it up. if you have neon paints you can mix them in instead of a highlighter if you want to color more vibrant.
