DIY...alphabet sounds teaching tubs

I saw these tubs at Lakeshore learning and thought it was a great idea for learning with the kids, but was not going to pay $149. for them.

So I made them myself.  There are 10 containers for $9.95 at Lakeshore and then I had a coupon buy one get one half so I made the alphabet set for less than $30.

Thanks to kadenscorner.com for the free printable. Then I placed them on the front of the containers. Got things around the house and filled the containers.

After I printed the letters off I used packing tape to stick them to the containers. Each container has house hold items in them along with a magnet letter.

We would watch the Leap Frog letter movie and pull out these containers and play a game. My son loved this.

  1. WONDERFUL! thank you I was looking everywhere for inspiration of what to contain the items in now I know. Would be great to know what sort of items that you contained in the tubs I am unsure whether to go for toys for example a spare peppa pig we have?

    1. I used things around the house and in each container. I placed a letter magnet in each as well. Got the pack of letters from the dollar store. Thanks for stopping by. Please let me know if I can help in anyway. Also, I have a code you can use to get a discount at Lakeshore Learning as well. Send me your e-mail.

    2. I am a Dylsexia Interventionist and your best friend will be your child's toy box. You can put anything that begins with that letter in the tubs. Letter x you might find something that ends with x like fox, box,etc... There are so many things you can do with objects also. So have fun with it.

  2. These are great! I have eyed those same tubs but like you have no intention of every spending that much money on something like that.

  3. Did you buy the empty tubs online or in store? Just curious! I was searching around on the website and couldn't find them!

    1. Dollar Tree has round containers that could be used as well. Your local grocery store deli might sell you some of the containers as well.

  4. I used Chinese take out containers that were similar to these bowls/lids. And then I filled with dollar store items as suggested.

  6. I did this with the little draw organizers found in tool/craft departments. There are 18 draws, but it comes with dividers to make 26 spaces. I like it because it hangs on the wall.

  10. I made a set of these about 8 years ago. Someone was getting rid of a bunch of small items that I used to fill the tubs. I got the tubs for free from the deli at a local grocery store. I already had alphabet stickers in the classroom. I also found the storage rack for free. Final cost= $0
