Exploring Science sensory bin with nature

I found silicone fall leaves and pumpkin cookware in Wal-Mart for $3.00 the other night and picked it up cause there was so much that came to my mind we could use it for.

Well the first thing we did with them was I made Fall colored ice for the kids to use on the sensory table cause they love ice play.

I added some nature things we picked up from our nature walk couple days ago to the bin and "J" went to town.

I gathered:
Corn starch
Baby Oil
Baking soda
Vinegar
Shaving cream

"J" had a blast mixing it all in and seeing what happens after an hour of exploring he took all the ingredients and said "mom, I am going to make fires." He is all into this imaginary play, loves the whole Fireman thing. That brought on another hour of play.

Didn't think that this nature sensory exploring would be so much fun, but "J" loved exploring to see what each ingredient did when mixing each one.

Vinegar and baking soda bubbling when mixing
Then baby oil made it just run right off the leaves
Mixing corn starch and oil it clumped up.

Make your own Fall leaf magnets

I was in Wal-Mart the other looking at all the holiday stuff that is out and came across this silicone mold of leaves and pumpkins. It was $3.00 and so many things came to mind so I bought it.

The first fun thing we did with this was an ice sensory table. That was alot of fun.

Then I thought of this idea to make our own plaster of paris magnets. All you have to do is follow the direction on the box of the plaster paris then pour into the mold let it sit for several hours and they pop right out.

Let the kid paint them. These are great for party fun, gifts, or just to keep. Then I added a magnet on the back so we could place them on our refrigerator.

We got our plaster of paris at Wal-Mart for $4.97 and it was a big box.

Materials:
Nature stuff
Paper plate
Glue
Contact paper(don't have to use we just did to keep the leaves. from drying and getting crispy)

Pumpkin person

We love to make crafts and momma loves all the fun keepsakes of the hand/foot prints to see how the kids grow each year.

So if you have been following you know we have been doing alot of fun crafts for Halloween with paper plates. If you haven't seen them be sure to check them out here.

Today we made Mr. Pumpkin. Painted the paper plate orange, put our foot prints on a white piece of paper and cut them out, then glued the face and feet onto the pumpkin plate.

You can add hand prints as well but we didn't this time.

Fun, easy and again inexpensive.

"J" was so cute laughing at his pumpkin, he said "mom, he has no arms." Laughing like crazy.

If you like to make paper plate crafts be sure to check out our fun Scented apple pie paper plate. Also, be sure to check back to see some more Fall ones we will be making.

50+ fun and different themed sensory play

Sensory play is such a GREAT way for little ones to explore and learn about what is around them. So what better way for them to learn and explore then setting up a different themed sensory bin.

I know there are some parents out there that think this is too messy and too time consuming, but trust me if you have never done it please just do it one time and see the joy it will bring to your kid(s) face. Also, the hours of fun play!!

Below I listed some sensory bins we have done and other moms as well,  to get you started if your not sure how to go about setting one up.

We set our sensory bins up in our water table, a clear tub and also we got a cement mixing bin from Home Depot $5.00(we have got SO much use out of that, well worth the money).

Pumpkin patch number/word learning bath

If you have been following you know we have been doing fun learning bath's, for the last several  weeks working on numbers and recognizing them.

Well last night I made a pumpkin patch bath and on the pumpkins I put the numbers on some and then the spelling of the numbers and dots on the the other so "J" could learn the recognize the spelling.

We sang our little song and changed it up alittle. I think that is his favorite part, he loves music.

Song we sang: (Tune is to Are you Sleeping?)
Picking pumpkins

One by one
one by one
pick number (blank)
pick number (blank)
O what fun

The cute part was when he would find them "C" would take them and line them up on the other side of the tub and count.

Materials:
Foam pumpkins
Sharpie for writing
If you want to add the sign was in the Dollar section at Target.
Paint (also if you want to add the grass, used Crayola washable)

"J" was so happy when he matched the numbers on the 1st try.
Make sure you check out the other fun bath learning we have done with numbers. Fall leaf counting, Ghost counting, and Apple number tree.

Be sure to check back cause I have alot more fun number and letter learning fun to come.

Halloween stamp art bath

"J" wanted to paint in the bath tonight so I threw together this Halloween bath. "J" and "C" had fun and it was very simple. Just placed Halloween colored paint on a tray with paint brushes and Halloween stamp art we had on hand.

You can do it 2 ways let them paint on the walls(we used washable paints) or you can tape paper/post board on the wall and let them paint on that.

They had fun and at the end started putting stamp art all over them. Body Art.

I put little pumpkin confetti in the tub as well.

"C" loves to paint you can tell in the pictures.

"J" had lots of fun, think the best part was the body art.

If you like the fun baths be sure to check out our learning bath with Ghost counting.

Learning number bath with Ghost and song

We did a Fall leaf counting tree  in the bath last week and "J" and "C" had so much fun they played with it all week long in the bath. It was so cute listening to "J" explain what number was what to her.

I think the part that really surprised me was "C" who just turned 2 picking up on the number recognition. Crazy she is counting to 10 and can tell you some of the numbers by sight.

So I put together another fun number bath. Found the ghost, trees and sign all in the Dollar section at Target. So this cost me $3.00 cause the trees we used for the Fall bath and I just colored them black with a sharpie.

Song we sang: (Tune is to Are you Sleeping?)
Catching Ghost
catching ghost
One by one
one by one
Grab number (blank)
grab number (blank)
And run, run, run

Again from the pictures you can see they had a blast.

They love this!!

Loved how "C" was trying to do what BIG brother was doing.
Above after "J" found all the numbers we lined them up and placed them in order.
The "J" sat on the ghost and said, "they are hiding" 2nd picture took them all and said "BOO".

If you like the learning baths, make sure to check back soon. Have several more to come, my little one's love this.

Note you can also do this with felt and project board to make a fun activity center or use for circle time in a preschool/school.
Here is one we did on a project board. Apple tree learning
