Make art with shapes

We had my cricut machine out the other day and was cutting out shapes and having fun. So today we explored and made a truck with shapes. I had J play with the shapes and asked him if he puts them together could he make something.

Then he placed them together and was so happy Mom, "look I can make a truck." So we then glues them on the paper after exploring.

All you need is different shapes, this is a fun project to do for learning shapes and colors.

Materials:
Different shapes
Glue or tape

Alphabet scoop for spelling

On this HOT summer day we were playing in the pool and I wanted to throw in a little learning fun. So I filled the pool up with all the letters we have and we scooped up letters. Then dumped them out to see if we could spell words.

J and C had fun, after doing this for about 25 min then he said mom, "we need to dive in the ocean and get a bunch." He remembered when we played with the water beads and scooping them.

This was alot of fun, they did it for about 45 min. Simple, fun and he didn't even take it as learning.

You can also do this in the bath tub if you don't have a baby pool.



Couple words we spelled, also did mom, meme, fun, hi, net, play, cat, dog and hat.

Stencil spray painting at the creek

J has been asking to go back to the creek to play and so we met one of our friends there(http://www.gokidyourself.com/) for a fun time. Make sure you check her awesome blog out.

I brought some spray paint to do some fun painting on the rocks, the kids had fun doing it along with playing in the water, throwing rocks, nature walk, and much more.

Materials:
Spray bottle
Washable paints (I mixed paint and water) 1/2 and 1/2 mixture.

I saw the idea of using a leaf as a stencil at Creavtive Play when they used the leaves as stencils painting on a towel. Loved the way it turned out. Make sure you check their art out at http://www.creativeplayhouse.mumsinjersey.co.uk/2012/01/spray-painting-leaves.html.

Alphabet Ice sensory play

J and C love the ice sensory play. So to add a little education to the fun play I took our alphabet magnets and placed then in ice trays with water and vinegar mix, then froze them to make ice.

Then I took them out the next day and set up a fun alphabet sensory play. Took some of the other alphabet toys we had and placed all around the table and added the ice cubes to it.

Then the kids added salt, water, vinegar and baking soda to the ice to get the letters out of the ice.

When they got the letters out of the ice we matched the upper and lower case letters together.


Materials:
Magnet letters(Dollar Tree) or any little letters you want to place in the ice.
Salt
Baking soda
Vinegar
Ice trays

This is a great fine motor skill along with eye/hand coordination for kids. Then they are playing as well as learning the letter reorganization.

Eye/hand coordination sensory water play

We added alittle fun activity to the water/pool play today. The kids love water beads, so I place them in water the night before so they were ready for the next day.

When it was time to play outside I filled the pool with water and the water beads. We pretend like we were diving in the ocean to catch things and would pick up the beads with our nets.

I didn't think it was going to last too long but, J wanted to keep doing it over and over. We even had bubbles in the pool to make it alittle fun and put little tikes people to catch in our nets as well.

J did this for over 30 min. which is pretty good for a preschooler.

This is great for the eye/hand coordination for little ones.

Exploring with a non-working toy

J is into taking things apart and exploring. He wants to know how things work, how it's put together, what is each part, and etc.

So we had this old toy truck that doesn't work when you put batteries in it and he asked if he could take it apart and explore, so I let him.

He just thought this was too cool.

So the next time you think about tossing that old toy, hey maybe you can save it to explore in a different way.
