Outside sensory baking fun

We took cake baking outside to do some more pretend baking sensory. My son loves, doing all this outside sensory cooking. It was so cute, to he said, "Mommy I am so glad it is not winter and we can play outside doing fun things again."

So I gathered the stuff we needed and FUN is what we had.

Materials we used:
Cake mix
Raspberry shaving cream for the smell
Gummy worms
Marshmallow
Strawberries
Sweet Tarts
Candles
Eggs(yellow paint for center)
Colored salt as sprinkles
Star baking tins

The stuff we used was left over stuff. Several items have been used other times for different projects. The eggs I used are real and I cracked the top and drained them out, then used yellow paint inside to make it like an egg. Thought this would be neat cause J always wants to crack the eggs when we are baking for real and we don't want to eat egg shells....lol.

Strawberries I had him cut the stems off to practice fine motor skills.

Can you tell they are ready!!!

Pouring all the ingredients in the bowl......cake mix, water, and oil(baby oil we used)

"J" cracking the egg.....he thought the was too cool. Placed yellow paint in the inside.

Cutting up the strawberries...."J" did such a great job

Mixing up the cut strawberries

Putting all the batter in the cake tins

Putting all the toppings on his cakes.....gummy worms, sweet tarts, candles, and sprinkles

"J" loved the smell of the raspberry shaving cream

"C" was having a blast, she loved playing in the dough.

Love her face, so into it.....I have to laugh cause "J" would never do this doesn't like his hands dirty.

We love the warmer months, so we can have alot of fun sensory play!!!

"J" is too funny he was saying EAT......yuck mommy said.

Love when my little boy is happy!!!

Pretend baking materials with real food

Alot of people like to do sensory play with their kids and the kids love it to. So I thought it would be a good thing to put a list and places we buy the stuff for cheap.

We have been doing pretend play with different things for awhile, my son loves to cook. The funny thing is he doesn't like to get messy, where my daughter is the opposite.

I try to recycle alot of the containers for the kids to play with so it doesn't get expensive. I also go to Thrift Stores to get old cooking items as well.

The Dollar Tree is a great place to start!! They have bowls, measuring cup, utensils, salt/pepper shakers and more. Once you buy that stuff you are good then if it gets to messy or cracks then trash it and wasn't too much out of your pocket.

You can get started with the basic stuff for less than $15.

Also, The Dollar Tree has alot of cheap ingredients to play with as well.
Cake mix
 Salt
 Kool-aid
 Beans
 Rice
 Noodles
 Oatmeal
 Cocoa mix
 Bread
 Cookies
 Food coloring
 Whip cream
 Gummy candies
 Marshmallow
Jello-O
Pudding
Spices
Baby Oil....this is cheaper than cooking oil for the kids to use, plus it smells good.

This is just some of the things we have gotten.

Summer time is a good time to stock up, due to party planning and they seem to have alittle more in my opinion.

Wal-Mart is another place I buy some of the food items, like rice you can buy in bulk, flour, and kool-aid you have a bigger selection. I do price compare alittle.

Hope this helps some and stay tune will be posting some fun things to cook/bake up with the kiddos for fun.

The shakers are filled with colored salt to use as sprinkles.

These pictures are just some of the things we have so you have alittle of an idea.

Fun sensory spaghetti play

The kids love mixing up stuff and pretend baking with real food, so I put together this fun spaghetti play.

First you need to cook the spaghetti noodles, I cooked the whole pack, but you don't need to. Then I mixed up a red kool-aid packet with salt for the kids to make the sauce(once you add a little water when playing it turns the pasta red like the sauce does). Then I crushed up old graham crackers to make parmesan cheese(saved the parmesan cheese container to put it in, so it seemed real). Last, we got a small thing of play-doh(brown) and made meatballs.

Mix all together and have at least a hour, if not more of play for less than $3.00

They had a blast doing this, and I had fun playing with them. J was serving me spaghetti and we made the meatballs together.

You can get everything you need from The Dollar Tree, great resource for cheap play cooking items for the kids.

Still can't believe how real this looks.

"C" had so much fun, being 19 months she is not always into it.

"J" was having fun to, his favorite part was pretend cooking the meatballs.

Kool-Aid salt sensory baking

In memory of Memorial Day we did red, white, and blue Kool-Aid pretend cooking fun. I mixed kool-aid, salt, and a pinch of water together to make like a wet sand mix so the kids could use it to play baking with.

The kids had a blast mixing things together like they were baking.

This was hours of fun sensory play for the kids. The best part was it cost less than $5.00.

Materials:
Kool-aid
Salt
Whip cream (can use shaving cream as well, but my daughter likes to put this stuff in her mouth)
Water

DIY Summer Icecream cookie sandwich

We had a HOT weekend here and J wanted to bake, man the thought of turning the oven on when it's so HOT outside. But I did it anyways so we could make a fun treat.

Baked cookies, then add the sprinkles we used kool-aid mixed with sugar fun and different. After the cookies cooled down we got the ice cream and spread it on one cookie and then placed the other cookie on top.

There you have it cookie ice cream sandwich. Easy and the kids will love to help and also eat them.

If you like to bake with your kids be sure to check out some of our other treats we have made.

Pirate treasure water sensory play....day 5

Today we wrapped up the Pirate week. My son had a blast, sure we will be doing more fun play with the Pirate's.

I took the little pool we had and set it all up with fun Pirate stuff. Placed jewels, treasure, sand, colored water, boats, shells and cups.

I made a some what pirate map for play.....not a big artist, but he thought is was cool so that's all that counts at this time....lol.

We spent an hour playing, then it got alittle HOT outside so we came in. J made pirate juice, we searched for treasure, he drove the boat (slide was our boat), was a great time of play.

This was the first time I did a week long theme and I am not sure who had more fun me getting it ready each day or him doing the play. We will for sure be doing another themed week.

J making Pirate juice

Checking the map, then opened the bottle and thought it was cool his name was on the paper.
